Prime Minister Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham and Mrs. Viola Burnham paid an official visit to the People’s Republic of China from March 12–17, 1975. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by Vice-Premiers Teng Hsiao-ping and Chen Yung-kuei, along with other high-level officials.
Premier Zhou Enlai, despite being hospitalized, held a meeting with Burnham and members of his delegation. Talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and fostering international partnerships.
During the visit, Prime Minister Burnham spoke at a grand banquet in the Great Hall of the People, emphasizing the importance of creating “new structures” for economic development. A press communiqué issued at the end highlighted mutual commitments to equality and respect in international affairs
